About my Braces and Surgery

Notice that I have braces, which I have been wearing since 11/9/01. Although inconvenient, I have been excited about taking steps to correct an over-bite problem. Additionally, I have received oral surgery to extend my lower jaw forward. About 6 months after surgery, I will have all of my teeth crowned - I wore them down, grinding away while sleeping!

Anyway, I had surgery 5/1/03. The procedure was: Orthognathic Surgery, or more specifically, Bilateral Sagittal Split Mandibular Osteotomy with titanium mesh bone plate fixation, Inferior Border Sling Mandibular Osteotomy, and placement of a dental implant. What a mouthful!!! I had an overnight stay in the hospital, as it was major surgery. Everything is going well.

Several people have asked about my surgery, so I have added a page with pictures to show the 1st week of recovery, then a fast forward to pictures at 3 months. Click here to see pictures.
